Q&A with Georgina Turner AAT Trainee
Our latest employee blog brought to you by Georgina Turner, one of the Accounts trainees based in our Bicester office. She gives her story on what it's like to work at Clark Howes and studying for her AAT qualification.
Georgina joined Clark Howes in 2016; she works mostly with our sole trader clients preparing accounts, payroll, VAT and bookkeeping. She enjoys getting to know the ins and outs of clients' businesses, seeing how cash flow can affect a business and devising effective cash management strategies.
How would you best describe the working environment at Clark Howes and how does this compare to other firms you have worked for?
"The working environment at Clark Howes is very positive and supportive. It differs from other companies I have previously worked with as you feel as though you can ask anyone for support at any point, and everyone is happy to help."
What are your aspirations for the firm and its development?
"My aspirations for the firm would be to continue to grow with it and see how far I can go."

"A potential employee should choose Clark Howes over any one else as they will fully support you through your training and education, offering what you need and anything that is deemed helpful to your future."
What were your first impressions of the company?
"My first impression of the company was that it was a large and growing organisation, striving to do well in the industry. Also, that they put their staff's training very high up on the priority list."
What's your role in the company?
"My role in the company is in the Business Services team. I work with clients to complete VAT returns, Year End Accounts, Bookkeeping and Payroll."
What are your main duties?
"My main duties are VAT returns, Year End Accounts, Bookkeeping and Payroll.”
What three characteristics would you say describe Clark Howes, and why?
“The three characteristics I would choose that best describes Clark Howes would be supportive, they will help you through your training and they prioritise your knowledge and wellbeing, ambitious, they are always finding ways to improve systems and striving to grow, and friendly, the staff are lovely and make you feel very welcome.”
Where did you work before joining Clark Howes? Have you worked outside accountancy/what other experiences do you bring to Clark Howes?
“I have previously worked in administration and accountancy in industry. My past with administration has meant that I am a very organised person, always wanting to do tasks in the most efficient way. My accountancy experience gave me a start in my accountancy knowledge, ready to progress to the next levels.”
When did you start your AAT qualification?
“I started with taking a Level 2 AAT Bookkeeping course in April 2015. I then progressed through Level 3 AAT and am currently working on my Level 4 AAT.”
What is your experience like studying for your AAT qualification?
“So far my experience studying AAT has been very good. I have done both class and home study with a few providers and they all give great support with your learning.”
What do you most enjoy about the AAT qualification?
“Learning more and expanding my knowledge in the area. Each level and module you learn is like a building block, and your understanding of the subject grows.”
What advice would you give someone looking to study AAT?
“If you want to get into the industry and become an accountant, it is the best way to learn gradually and get the knowledge you need. If you choose a good provider and put the effort in, you will be rewarded.”
