Caribbean Biking Company Limited (Cubania Travel)

Clark Howes were introduced to Lucy Davies in 2012 via a current client. Lucy was in search of support and guidance with regards to setting up in the UK for her ground handling travel services in Cuba. Recognising the need for international incorporation in order to progress the businesses further, she was keen to learn what options were available to her and what support she would need.

Goals

Lucy came to Clark Howes looking for advice regarding the most tax efficient way to set up in the UK as well as the right commercial structure that would work for the day-to-day running of the business.

Our role

Clark Howes was instructive in advising Lucy on the benefits of setting up in the UK and how she could benefit from a family structured business. This included advice on how the new company should be structured, to the opening of UK bank accounts, to a full VAT review of services and specialist travel schemes.

The Clark Howes team made sure to be accessible and responsive and that Lucy was kept in the loop at each stage, as well as corresponding with the team in Cuba as needed.  Lucy already had a successful and profitable business and it was our role to ensure that this remained the focus while we provided support for this new chapter.

With a new way of operating and a new system of compliance to understand, our role was to be clear and methodical with our approach.  The travel sector has additional considerations and practicalities to undertake, so it was important that these were incorporated into the advice given.

The results

The Caribbean Biking Company has continued to grow and remains successful within its sector.

Having developed a strong working partnership with the Clark Howes team, we ensure that Lucy is up-to-date with any legislative changes that might impact her business as well as identifying other opportunities within the market place. We make sure that our service goes beyond just that of compliance and that we are able to support Lucy in achieving her future business goals.

"I am a small business owner, accustomed to doing everything myself so it was a huge relief when I met Clark Howes and realised that I could trust them to help me with many of the day-to-day operations required to run a company.

Caribbean Biking Company Ltd was set up in September 2012 and although we had previous experience in the market, we were novices when it came to registering with Company House and ensuring that we were filing taxes correctly. Jen Sewell and her team have helped me every step of the way, giving unbiased  professional advice, ensuring that we are accounting correctly and understanding the very particular needs of a company working in partnership with a developing country and all the complications of  Foreign Exchange and multi-currency accounting that this implies.

Throughout all my communications with Clark Howes,  every single member of the team has been friendly, courteous and professional.  It’s a true pleasure working with Clark Howes."
